Women Only Exercise Classes

In Yoga, the body is treated with care and respect, yoga exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which can generally result to better health.

Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In Yoga, students gain breathing control as they slowly increase their breathing. By focusing on their breathing, they prepare their minds for the next step - Meditation.

In Meditation, students bring the activities of the mind into focus resulting in a 'quiet' mind. By designing physical poses and breathing techniques that develop awareness of our body, Yoga helps us focus and relieves us from our everyday stress.

Henna runs twice weekly yoga classes.

·       Every Tuesday – 2.15pm till 3.15pm  Hatha Yoga

·       Every Wednesday – 12.15pm till 1.15pm  Yoga

Through this service, ladies have become healthier with reported reductions in weight, blood pressure and overall increase in stamina. Importantly, the ladies who access this service regularly have benefited from forming a firm social network that provides them with much needed confidence, reduced isolation and a good laugh.

Through the exercise and the friendships formed through the classes, overall mental health of women has improved. The exercise classes form part of the Bridging Project where through the confidence gained through exercise, members learn about diverse activities and services that they then begin to access. Members accessing exercise are now using services as diverse as the IT classes, swimming in Leisure centres, improving their English skills, numeracy skill development and some have begun volunteering.

Slow Chair-based exercise

Our focus in our Monday Clubs has been to improve health as a majority of our beneficiaries suffer health problems of some nature. We have linked service provision with health information given to us by members in their membership forms. This has proven successful as turnout at each of the information sessions has been excellent with members fully engaged with the information.

Within the Monday Club we have started to provide weekly slow chair-based exercise sessions. These sessions are tailored around the age group that attends our Monday club. Our service users have stated that they are extremely enjoying these sessions.

Healthy Walks

Henna hold a forum meeting within our Monday Club to get a better understanding of what other services might be beneficial for all our service users. Our service users stated that they wanted to get out and about more.  Raf has introduced days out to visit scenic parks in and around our local areas. This service will continue every month for everyone to enjoy the rich greenery we have around us which goes unnoticed due to our busy daily lives.

Come and take advantage of exercising your body in the form of slow walking in a group. We will be taking many breaks so don’t feel you won’t be able to keep up as it will be according to a pace that suits all. We will be taking buses to get to the places we visit, once we arrive at our destination we will be walking. Please remember to wear loose clothing and comfortable footwear.

You can always bring along a pack lunch to enjoy whilst basking in the sun and relishing the nature we have around us.  Please refer to the schedule for dates and times for these days out or call the office.
