Monday Club

Henna has a weekly over 50’s club. Here our beneficiaries meet up and enjoy each other’s company. We also have a range of other organisations that come in and spread awareness in regards to different health/social issues that our beneficiaries face on a daily basis.

This is one of Henna’s oldest and most successful services. The session is held every Monday between 1.00pm – 3.00pm at the Abbey Community Centre. They meet on a regular basis to discuss social/cultural issues, health issues and participate in outings and arts & craft activities.

A quarterly calendar of activities and events is produced with consultation with the members, who suggest what activities they would like to do.

Some of these included:

bullet

Housing Issues provided by Camden Council

bullet

Hate Crime session: Victim Support

bullet

Diabetes Awareness: Diabetes UK

bullet

Life Coaching Training provided by Women & Health

bullet

Money Management Training provided by Camden Community Law Centre

bullet

Healthy Eating Awareness provided by University Central London Hospital

bullet

Ovarian Cancer Awareness provided by Ovarian Cancer Action

bullet

Alzheimer & Dementia Awareness provided by Age UK Camden

Participation in this group helps reduce isolation as it allows the members to come together and socialise with each other at the same time as learning new skills. The group promotes the building of support networks and community cohesion.

An additional service has been added to the Monday club – we will be providing monthly sessions of massage for all service users. This will be available at the concession price of £5.00 for 15 minutes. This massage is provided by a trained masseuse that has an experienced profile within health and well-being therapies.

Massage is an intuitive healing art based on our instinct to rub areas that hurt with the aim to provide calm and relief to our bodies. During our daily life we do not realize how much tension we create within ourselves. Sometimes it is necessary to have someone support us by finding a way to release stiffness whilst at the same time guide us to understand these causes of tensions and to be aware of them.

The massage technique comes from acupressure (gentle pressure on the body) and manipulation of the limbs (rotation, flexion and extension). The aim is to give those our client’s relief as well as for them to understand how to relax and to move freely.
