Monday Club
This is one of Henna’s
oldest and most successful services. The session is held every Monday
between 1.00pm – 3.00pm at the Abbey Community Centre and is attended by
Asian women from 50+ in age. They meet on a regular basis to discuss
social/cultural issues, health issues and participate in outings and arts
& craft activities. A quarterly calendar of activities and events is
produced with consultation with the members, who suggest what activities
they would like to do. This year staff was able to run the Monday Club as
normal with new range of talks and activities. In 2011, some of these
included: Understanding Mental Health Services; First Aid Training;
Health Awareness Session; Learn about Cancer Screening Services; Stress
Management; Learn how to make thermal lining for curtains; Preventing and
Managing Heart disease; Diabetes Awareness Session; and Managing Weight.
Participation in this
group helps reduce isolation as it allows the members to come together and
socialise with each other at the same time as learning new skills. The
group promotes the building of support networks and community cohesion.
